Please join ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ Community College for the  event on Thursday, June 18, at 4:30 p.m., in the Lower Level Community Room at the ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ New Bedford Campus800 Purchase Street.

The free event will feature a multilingual reading of Frederick Douglass' famed 1852 speech, What to the Slave is Your Fourth of July? with portions presented in Wôpanâak (indigenous Wampanoag language), Portuguese, Cape Verdean Creole and English, highlighting the enduring resonance of Douglass’ words within our local communities.

The college’s event is generously supported by a grant from Mass Humanities, which organizes and funds public events where communities gather to read and discuss abolitionist Frederick Douglass’ work and influence. ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ continues to host this event at its New Bedford campus given the significant role that the city played in shaping Douglass’ early activism.
